Monte Etna

Monte Etna stands on the east side of Sicily, above Catania and the Ionian Sea, and it is one of the most striking mountains in Italy. Hikers come here for the dramatic volcanic scenery: dark lava fields, craters, and broad open slopes with wide views across the island. The best time to hike is from late spring through early autumn, especially May to October, when snow is usually limited and the weather is more settled.
